Answer: Martin Robison Delaney was an Abolitionist, Physician, Editor, Journalist, Writer, Soldier also, the first Black Nationalist.

 

Question; Where and when was he born?

 

Answer: He was born in Charles Town, West Virginia, USA, on May 6, 1812.

 

Question: Was Martin Delaney a slave?

 

Answer: No. Although his father was a slave, he was born to a “free” mother. Based on the law in Virginia at that time, he was born free.

 

Question: Where and when die he die?

 

Answer: He died of tuberculosis on January 24, 1885; in Wilberforce,Ohio, USA.

 

Question: How Many children did he have?

 

Answer: He had 11 children but only 7 survived to adulthood.

 

Question: Was he married?

Answer: Yes. He was married to his wife Catherine from 1843-1884.

 

Question: Did he write any books?

 

Answer: Yes. Delaney wrote and had at least 12 books published. Blake or the Huts of America, The Origins Of Races And Color, and The Principia of Ethnology are a few of his more popular publications.

 

Question: Where was he educated?

Answer: Delaney attended both Harvard Medical School and Harvard University. He was one of the first three “blacks” admitted to Harvard Medical School.
